Making Quality Advising Accessible at Scale

A postsecondary education – whether college, trade school, or another pathway – unlocks opportunities for students and entire communities. Yet it remains out of reach for millions of students, and the average high school student receives only 38 minutes of college and career support per year.

OneGoal is a postsecondary advising and support organization working with high schools and districts to transform advising and support. Building on its nearly two decades of high-quality advising model for students, OneGoal created a school-wide, technology-enabled advising solution that expands access to high-quality postsecondary guidance. It equips a broader set of educators to lead personalized advising, supported by training, coaching, and data-driven insights. This lowers the cost barrier for schools to embed college and career advising into the school day for every student.

This innovative school-wide solution focuses on four core milestones that help students:

  • Understand how advising will support their postsecondary planning process

  • Explore and define their unique career interests

  • Identify postsecondary institutions and pathways that align with their personal, academic, career, and financial needs

  • Navigate the funding options available for their postsecondary plans

By using technology to make advising a shared, schoolwide responsibility, OneGoal is expanding access and quality in the short term and aims to drive long-term gains in enrollment, persistence, and equitable economic mobility.

“With OneGoal we’re able to actually prepare kids for college—and keep up with them while they’re in college—to really level the playing field for everybody.”

— Jeff Simon, Assistant Principal, John Dewey High School

With Axim's support, OneGoal aims to scale its school-wide support to create sustainable, systemic change in how schools prepare students for their postsecondary journeys. The partnership positions OneGoal to scale from serving 222 students in FY25 to reaching more than 10,000 students nationwide with the tech-enabled model by FY28 through district partnerships, state-level initiatives, and enterprise collaborations with career planning platforms and national nonprofit networks. By demonstrating a cost-effective model and reducing implementation barriers, this work will contribute to field-level insights on expanding equitable advising at scale – ensuring that the innovations benefit the students who need them most and create pathways to financially sustainable futures for all learners.
